Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami chaired a key meeting of the State Disability Advisory Board at the Secretariat today, reaffirming the government’s commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities. He instructed officials to ensure that all welfare schemes reach beneficiaries with complete transparency and accessibility, stressing that addressing their issues must remain a top governance priority.
Health Camps and Assistive Support
The Chief Minister directed the Health Secretary to hold special medical camps across the state at regular intervals. According to media reports, these camps will not only provide treatment but also distribute disability certificates, artificial limbs, and other assistive devices on the spot to ensure timely support.
Welfare Schemes and Pensions
The Social Welfare Secretary was instructed to act promptly on the suggestions gathered during the meeting. Dhami emphasized that persons with disabilities must get the full benefits of reservation during recruitment processes. As per several media sources, he also asked the Social Welfare Department to strictly ensure that every eligible individual receives disability pensions and coverage under other social security schemes without delays.
Prioritizing Disability-Friendly Governance
The Chief Minister called upon department secretaries to consistently review and monitor initiatives linked to disability welfare. He urged them to prioritize effective implementation of schemes that directly impact this section of society. Dhami reiterated that persons with disabilities are an integral part of the community, and the government is committed to empowering them through inclusive policies.
Suggestions from Legislators and Board Members
The meeting was also attended by MLAs Bharat Chaudhary and Savita Kapoor, alongside board members and senior officials, including Secretaries Sridhar Babu Addanki, Ranjit Sinha, Chandresh Kumar, V. Shanmugam, Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar, and Social Welfare Director Prakash Chandra. Several board members shared suggestions, which the Chief Minister assured would be considered positively.
Dhami concluded the meeting by saying that disability-related issues should not be treated merely as administrative subjects but as moral responsibilities, reflecting the government’s duty to work with empathy and inclusion.
The state’s consistent moves toward disability empowerment are expected to enhance access to healthcare, pensions, education opportunities, and employment support, signaling a stronger framework for inclusive governance in the future.
