Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has called for faster action to strengthen sports infrastructure and encourage youth participation across the state. Chairing a sports department review meeting at his official residence, Dhami outlined a roadmap to ensure that training facilities, competitions, and athlete support systems run seamlessly year-round, aiming to position Uttarakhand as a rising sports powerhouse.
Regular Use of National Games Infrastructure
The Chief Minister directed that infrastructure built for the 38th National Games be properly maintained and efficiently utilized. He stressed that regular sports tournaments should be organized statewide to keep the facilities active and to ensure maximum use of these assets. According to media reports, Dhami instructed officials to arrange competitions ranging from local justice panchayat events to MLA, MP, and CM championship trophies to drive mass participation.
Speeding Up Key Sports Projects
Dhami pushed for expedited work on the proposed sports university in Haldwani and the upcoming women’s sports college at Lohaghat. These institutions, once operational, will provide high-standard training facilities and opportunities for athletes, boosting Uttarakhand’s profile in the sports sector. As per several media sources, he said that the timely completion of these projects would improve access to advanced coaching and infrastructure, benefiting athletes across disciplines.
Expanding Training Support and Private Collaboration
The Sports and Youth Welfare Department has been tasked with extending support to youths preparing for Agniveer recruitment. Dhami underscored the importance of hiring experienced coaches to deliver quality training and setting up specialized sports academies quickly. He also called for active private and corporate sector partnerships to develop infrastructure, helping extend sports facilities to all communities statewide.
Preparing for the 39th National Games
With the 39th National Games approaching, the Chief Minister directed that athletes be given improved training resources, timely rewards, scholarships, and insurance benefits. He noted that exceptional performers should be recognized promptly to build sustained momentum in the state’s sporting culture. The government’s goal is to foster an environment that channels youthful energy into competitive sports, promoting discipline and national recognition.
The meeting was attended by Sports Minister Rekha Arya, State Sports Council Vice-Chairman Hemraj Bisht, Principal Secretary R.K. Sudhanshu, Special Principal Secretary Sports Amit Sinha, Secretary Shailesh Bagoli, Director Sports Ashish Chauhan, and other senior officials.
The roadmap discussed reflects Uttarakhand’s vision to merge grassroots participation with high-performance training, ensuring that sports become an integral part of the state’s identity and a driver of youth development.
Authorities are likely to increase focus on district-level sporting events, advanced coaching setups, and stronger infrastructure partnerships to establish Uttarakhand as a national leader in sports development.
