Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed officials to accelerate the strengthening of sports infrastructure and youth engagement across the state. During a review meeting at his official residence, he emphasized the government’s commitment to developing world-class training facilities and nurturing a strong sports culture that inspires young talent. The discussion focused on long-term planning to ensure that sports become a sustained movement fostering fitness, discipline, and national recognition for Uttarakhand’s athletes.
Focus on Upgrading Sports Infrastructure
Chief Minister Dhami instructed officials to ensure regular maintenance and effective utilization of the infrastructure developed for the 38th National Games. He said that regular tournaments should be held across the state to make full use of sports assets and keep sporting activities active throughout the year. According to media reports, he directed that new competitions—ranging from Justice Panchayat to MLA, MP, and CM Championships—be organized to promote participation at every level.
Accelerated Work on Sports University and Women’s College
The Chief Minister also pushed for speedy implementation of two key projects—the proposed sports university in Haldwani and the women’s sports college in Lohaghat. He said these projects would empower athletes, especially women, by giving them access to high-quality training and academic support. As per several media sources, Dhami highlighted that such initiatives are crucial for building Uttarakhand’s image as a rising sports hub of India.
Enhancing Training and Private Sector Collaboration
Dhami emphasized the need for appointing experienced coaches to deliver quality training and for swiftly establishing specialized sports academies across the state. He suggested that the Sports and Youth Welfare Department extend support to youths preparing for Agniveer recruitment. He also recommended increased collaboration with private and corporate sectors to boost infrastructure development, ensuring that sports facilities reach every corner of society.
Preparing for the 39th National Games
Looking ahead to the 39th National Games, the Chief Minister directed officials to provide improved training facilities and resources for Uttarakhand’s athletes. He instructed that high-performing players receive timely rewards, scholarships, and insurance coverage to sustain motivation and performance excellence. Dhami reiterated that the government is determined to channel the youth’s energy into positive sports endeavors, ultimately elevating Uttarakhand’s standing on the national stage.
The review meeting was attended by Sports Minister Rekha Arya, State Sports Council Vice-Chairman Hemraj Bisht, Principal Secretary R.K. Sudhanshu, Special Principal Secretary Sports Amit Sinha, Secretary Shailesh Bagoli, Director Sports Ashish Chauhan, and senior department officials.
The discussion underlined the government’s larger vision—to merge youth empowerment with sports development—aiming to turn Uttarakhand into a model state for grassroots-to-professional-level sporting excellence.
Building on this vision, authorities are expected to focus more on district-level engagement, modern coaching setups, and inclusive participation to create a vibrant sports ecosystem across the state.
