Promoting the spirit of self-reliance ahead of the festive season, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami urged citizens to embrace indigenous products as he visited the Khadi Gramodyog Bhavan on Chakrata Road, Dehradun, and purchased local khadi goods. His message echoed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent call through the Mann Ki Baat programme, encouraging Indians to support the Swadeshi movement and choose homegrown products.
Strengthening the Swadeshi Spirit
Speaking at the event, Dhami emphasized that khadi is more than just fabric—it represents Aatmanirbhar Bharat and symbolizes Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals of self-sufficiency. According to media reports, the Chief Minister said the Swadeshi campaign launched under the Prime Minister’s vision of Vocal for Local has transformed into a nationwide movement.
He added that purchasing khadi and other indigenous goods not only supports local artisans, weavers, and small industries but also bolsters Uttarakhand’s economy. Dhami appealed to citizens to prioritize Indian-made products, especially during the festive season, to ensure the benefits reach rural communities and local entrepreneurs.
Economic Empowerment Through Local Goods
As per several media sources, Dhami reiterated that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, India’s journey toward self-reliance is gaining momentum. He described the Vocal for Local initiative not merely as a slogan but as a decisive step toward achieving both economic and cultural independence. He noted that each purchase of khadi directly contributes to sustaining traditional craftsmanship and strengthening local livelihoods.
Uttarakhand’s Emerging Khadi Hub
Dhami expressed confidence that Uttarakhand will soon emerge as a major center for khadi and other indigenous industries. He said the state’s growing focus on sustainable production and eco-friendly business models will project Uttarakhand’s identity on both national and international platforms. His remarks were warmly received by the large gathering of local artisans, traders, and residents attending the event.
Uttarakhand’s push for khadi revival and Swadeshi adoption signals a broader shift toward sustainable, community-based development that aligns regional economic strength with national self-reliance.
The growing enthusiasm for local production could position Uttarakhand as a hub for eco-friendly entrepreneurship, further driving India’s movement toward self-reliant and inclusive economic growth.
