Uttarakhand’s push for slum redevelopment gained fresh momentum after Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan chaired a high-level meeting at the state secretariat. The review focused on expediting the rehabilitation and regularization of residents living in slum clusters across the state through a renewed survey and coordinated district action plan.
Fresh Survey and Policy Action
During the meeting, Bardhan directed officials to conduct a new statewide survey of slum areas to ensure updated data and accurate beneficiary identification. The Chief Secretary emphasized revisiting the 2011–12 survey records to classify eligible beneficiaries under Category 1 and Category 2, and to regularize them through coordinated drives supported by local bodies and district administrations, according to media reports.
Strengthening District Committees
Bardhan instructed all districts to activate and convene their district-level committees for slum redevelopment projects. He also suggested holding state-level review meetings soon after, ensuring that all regional reports are consolidated for faster decision-making. Emphasis was laid on maintaining systematic communication between departments and accelerating project execution.
Focus on Kathi Bangla Housing Project
The Chief Secretary highlighted the importance of completing the allotment process for houses built under the Kathi Bangla Project by November 2025. He directed the Secretary of Urban Development to maintain constant monitoring of the progress. Officials were also advised to ensure transparency in the allocation process to prevent delays or irregularities, as per several media sources.
Coordinated Approach and Monitoring
To ensure effective planning and execution, Bardhan urged joint meetings of the Urban Development Department, the Public Works Department, MDDA (Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority), and municipal corporations. These meetings will finalize land identification, eligibility norms, allotment rules, and detailed project reports (DPRs). Key officials present included Secretary Nitesh Kumar Jha, MDDA Vice-Chairman Banshidhar Tiwari, and Additional Secretary Gaurav Kumar.
