Uttarakhand is strengthening its skill development and overseas employment initiatives to connect young professionals with job opportunities in the state, across India, and abroad. Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan reviewed the Department of Skill Development and Employment today, outlining a comprehensive strategy to enhance training and placement for youth.
Overseas Employment Opportunities
Bardhan emphasized the need to fully utilize the state’s Overseas Employment Cell and empanelled recruitment agencies to secure jobs for Uttarakhand’s youth in international destinations. Priority will be given to sectors with high demand, ensuring candidates receive specialized training aligned with overseas market needs, according to media reports.
Skill Gap Assessment and Training Expansion
The Chief Secretary directed that a statewide skill gap assessment be completed promptly to identify training priorities. He stressed the inclusion of niche programs such as nursing, tour guiding, and wildlife guiding. As per several media sources, the department will also provide hand-holding support and internship opportunities to prepare youth for both domestic and global employment.
Language Proficiency for Global Readiness
Highlighting the importance of practical communication skills, Bardhan made foreign language training mandatory for candidates pursuing overseas jobs. This aims to remove barriers in everyday conversations abroad and improve employability. The training will focus on workplace relevance, cultural awareness, and confidence building.
Achievements and Ongoing Programs
Secretary C. Ravishankar reported that the Overseas Employment Cell has already facilitated training and jobs for 63 youth in Japan and Saudi Arabia. Through the Centre of Excellence, 351 young people have received training, with 315 successfully placed. Currently, 169 trainees are enrolled in skill enhancement programs, with placements in progress.
The state’s renewed push for skill development is expected to open greater avenues for youth empowerment, combining targeted vocational programs with structured international placement pipelines.
The initiative is likely to expand Uttarakhand’s global workforce footprint and encourage more young people to pursue skills for international careers.
