Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami participated in the “Mukhyamantri Sasakt Bahna Utsav” held today at Chhinigoth, Tanakpur, celebrating women’s confidence, entrepreneurship, and traditional skills. He emphasized that women’s active involvement is key to realizing the dream of a developed Uttarakhand. The state government is committed not only to supporting women but also empowering them to be self-reliant.
Celebrating Women’s Empowerment and Entrepreneurship
During the event, Dhami toured various live stalls showcasing women’s labor and skills. He personally engaged in activities including traditional mattha preparation, underscoring the cultural and health significance of such foods and the need to connect them with modern markets. At the electrical works stall, he soldered Diwali lights with women, embodying the “Vocal for Local” mantra, and urged increased purchase of women-made products during the festival.
Linking Traditional Agriculture with Rural Economy
Appreciating agricultural activities, Dhami helped women in the traditional rice pounding process, highlighting that traditional agriculture and handmade foods now directly link with health, tourism, and rural economies. He stressed women’s role as the backbone of the rural economy.
Government Support and Schemes for Women
The Chief Minister distributed the “Mahalakshmi Kit” from the Women and Child Development Department to beneficiaries. He interacted warmly with children, emphasizing health and education as bases for a strong society. Highlighting government efforts, he stressed financial, technical, and marketing support for women’s groups in collective enterprises, product creation, transport services, and handicrafts.
Empowerment Targets and Social Initiatives
Quoting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Nari Tu Narayani” mantra, Dhami cited several government programs such as Ujjwala, Jan Dhan, Ayushman Bharat, PM Awas, Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao, and the Nari Shakti Vandan Act as crucial to women’s empowerment. Uttarakhand has over 70,000 self-help groups engaging more than 500,000 women, with 165,000 becoming “Lakhpati Didis.” The government enforces 30% reservation for women in government jobs and a uniform civil code to safeguard women’s rights.

The event saw participation from dignitaries like Minister Shyam Narayan Pandey, district officials, municipal leaders, and thousands of attendees, underlining broad community support for women’s empowerment.
