Uttarakhand Police to get silver jubilee medals

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami paid heartfelt tributes to police and paramilitary martyrs during the Police Commemoration Day program held at Police Lines, Dehradun on Tuesday. The ceremony marked the state’s gratitude toward police personnel who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty, with CM Dhami laying wreaths and honoring the families of the fallen heroes.

Major Announcements for Police Welfare

On the 25th anniversary of Uttarakhand’s statehood, the Chief Minister announced several major initiatives aimed at strengthening the police force. According to media reports, all police personnel will receive a special silver jubilee medal. The state government will allocate ₹100 crore every year for the next three years to construct residential quarters for police staff. The Police Welfare Fund has also been increased from ₹2.5 crore to ₹4.5 crore for enhanced implementation of welfare schemes.

CM Dhami also revealed plans to construct five new barracks for SDRF personnel in locations such as Bhawali, Nainital, Bagheswar, and Tehri, aiming to improve infrastructure for emergency response teams across the state.

Strengthening Infrastructure and Digital Systems

As per several media sources, the Chief Minister emphasized that maintaining internal security and law and order relies heavily on the dedication of police and paramilitary forces. Last year, 186 officers nationwide sacrificed their lives—including four from Uttarakhand Police.

The government, he said, is continuously working to make the state police more capable, resourceful, and tech-driven. Over the last three years, ₹500 crore has been dedicated to police infrastructure—an unprecedented increase compared to previous years. The construction of 688 residential buildings is underway, with 120 additional homes to be built soon.

Digital transformation remains central to these reforms—police salary, leave, and reimbursement processes are now fully online. The government also released ₹5 crore to implement new criminal laws and extended cashless medical facilities under the state health scheme to all personnel.

Boosting Efficiency and Modern Policing

Dhami announced that promotions within the police department have been made time-bound. This year alone, 356 officers across various ranks were promoted, while action for 115 pending posts is ongoing. He further honored 215 personnel for distinguished service and performance.

To enhance skills, the PTC Narendra Nagar is being developed as a Center of Excellence, offering AI and cybersecurity training through top national institutions. “Our officers must stay one step ahead of cybercriminals,” Dhami noted, emphasizing the growing need for technical proficiency in law enforcement.

Combating Drugs and Cyber Crime

The state has established a three-tier Anti-Narcotics Task Force that has acted against more than 6,000 drug peddlers and seized narcotics worth over ₹275 crore in the past three years. Highlighting Uttarakhand’s proactive cyber operations, Dhami shared that police recovered over ₹63 crore lost in fraud cases, strengthening public trust in the force.

A new SDRF company with 162 posts has also received approval, boosting disaster management capacity. The CM noted that Uttarakhand Police provided exemplary service during the Kanwar and Char Dham Yatra, ensuring safety for over 4.5 crore pilgrims and visitors.

Focus on Welfare, Training, and Resilience

The government has provided jobs to 136 dependents of deceased police personnel under the compassionate appointment policy and introduced special recruitment quotas for talented athletes under the Uttarakhand Sports Policy. Dhami urged senior officers to conduct regular programs on mental health and stress management for police personnel.

He honored the valor of police personnel, recalling the National Police Memorial established by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which symbolizes the courage and sacrifice of India’s law enforcers. CM Dhami reiterated that in a geographically and strategically sensitive state like Uttarakhand, police play a vital role in maintaining peace and security.

The day witnessed participation from dignitaries including Cabinet Minister Satpal Maharaj, MP Naresh Bansal, MLAs Khajan Das and Savita Kapoor, Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan, and DGP Deepam Seth, alongside senior police officials and retired officers.

Uttarakhand’s police modernization efforts continue to reflect the state government’s deep commitment to welfare, capacity building, and the technological empowerment of its security forces.

CM Dhami’s announcements are expected to bring systematic reforms and improved working conditions for police personnel, setting a new standard for state-level law enforcement innovation.
