- Healthcare workforce boost
The empowered committee meeting was held at the Secretariat in Uttarakhand under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan to review and recommend measures for the regulation and expansion of nursing courses across various medical and nursing colleges in the state. The primary discussion centered around the simplification of the approval process and an increase in the number of seats available for nursing courses, aiming to strengthen the healthcare workforce in Uttarakhand.
Committee Recommends Seat Expansion and Simplification
Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan instructed officials to develop a single window system for processing institutional applications related to nursing course operations and seat increases. This new system aims to streamline the approval process, replacing the existing multi-stage scrutiny with a faster and more accessible approach. The committee was also directed to create a standard operating procedure (SOP), making each step of the application workflow transparent and efficient for all participating institutions.
Nursing Seat Enhancement Across Colleges
The committee approved the addition of 1,790 new nursing seats in 39 government and private medical colleges. According to Health Secretary Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar, Uttarakhand State Nursing Council had registered 21,541 nurses by 2024, and 9,806 students are currently enrolled in various nursing training programs statewide. This expansion is designed to cater to growing demands for qualified nurses in both urban and rural healthcare facilities.
Administrative Support and Participation
The meeting was attended by key officials, including Secretary Dilip Jawalkar and other senior administrators, ensuring coordinated execution and implementation of the proposed reforms in nursing education and training.
Flattening bureaucratic hurdles through the single window system and increasing nursing seats marks a decisive step towards building Uttarakhand’s healthcare capacity. These efforts are expected to ease institutional processes and improve enrollment rates, helping the state produce more skilled nursing professionals.
Looking ahead, Uttarakhand is likely to see expanded educational access, improved application efficiency, and stronger support for healthcare infrastructure growth, benefiting communities statewide.
