Dhami Urges Speedy Progress in Aviation Projects
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami instructed officials to fast-track all civil aviation infrastructure projects. He stressed the highest priority must be given to safety in helicopter operations across the state. Strengthening the air network will improve connectivity to remote regions.
Expanding Air Travel Network and Pilots Training
The CM highlighted the need to expand air routes for easier access to far-flung areas. He directed greater focus on promoting aero sports in Uttarakhand and starting regular charter services for the Char Dham pilgrimage. Officials shared that a new flying training school is being established in Pantnagar. This centre will meet the rising demand for trained pilots.
Digital Mapping and New Shuttle Services
The civil aviation department is partnering with ISRO to develop digital mapping capabilities. Plans under the Uttarakhand Air Connectivity scheme include shuttle flights between Dehradun-Joshimath, Joshimath-Badrinath, and air services connecting Pithoragarh, Dharchula, and Munsyari. Helicopter services will also link Gunji and the Adi Kailash region to boost tourism and pilgrimage.
Airport Expansion and Regional Hub Development
Data shows expansion work at Pantnagar and Jolly Grant airports is underway. Pantnagar’s upgrade is expected by 2027-28, while Jolly Grant will meet international standards by 2026. The Pithoragarh airstrip is set to become a regional hub, considering tourism growth and remote area needs. New helipads will be developed in border areas with India Army cooperation.
Senior Officials Oversee Aviation Development Plans
Several senior officials joined the meeting, including Vice Chairman Vishwas Dabar, Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan, Principal Secretaries R.K. Sudhanshu and R. Meenakshi Sundaram. Also present were Secretary Sachin Kurve, UKADA CEO Ashish Chauhan, and other key personnel. Their involvement reflects the state’s commitment to rapid aviation growth.
