IAS Officer Vikram Singh Malik Appointed Deputy Secretary at MIB
New Delhi: The Centre has appointed Vikram Singh Malik, a 2012-batch IAS officer from the AGMUT cadre, as Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB) under the Central Staffing Scheme. The four-year posting marks a significant career move for Malik, placing him at the heart of media policy and strategic communications at the national level.
Similar senior postings in the past have reflected the government’s intent to strengthen policy oversight in India’s rapidly evolving media landscape.
From Ladakh Administration to National Media Role
Before his central posting, Malik served as Administrative Secretary in Ladakh, overseeing departments such as Power, Youth Services & Sports, and Information & Public Relations. On March 6, 2024, he took over as Secretary of the Power and New & Renewable Energy Department, succeeding Ravinder Kumar.
During his tenure, he focused on developing infrastructure, managing energy planning, and integrating renewable energy solutions to meet Ladakh’s unique geographic and climatic challenges.
Responsibilities at the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting
In his new role at MIB, Malik will manage public broadcasting, digital media strategy, content regulation, and policy coordination across various communication platforms.
With digital misinformation, content moderation, and broadcast reforms emerging as pressing concerns, his position is expected to balance strategic oversight with regulatory responsibility.
Officials note that Malik’s blend of field governance and communication-oriented leadership positions him well to navigate these challenges.
Leadership Change at the Helm
Malik succeeds Subhash Kumar, a 2011-batch Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer, who served in the same role since May 2021. Kumar’s tenure focused on streamlining communication policies and enhancing the government’s digital outreach. Malik is expected to carry forward these initiatives, while introducing his own approach to policy execution and governance.
Malik’s appointment reflects the Centre’s focus on reinforcing media governance frameworks amid the rapid growth of digital platforms. Over the next four years, he is expected to play a key role in shaping communication strategies, strengthening policy controls, and ensuring effective public information dissemination at the national level.
