From Kasganj to Noida: IAS Medha Roopam’s Big Move

Medha Roopam Becomes Noida’s First Woman District Magistrate

Noida: Uttar Pradesh has appointed IAS officer Medha Roopam as District Magistrate of Gautam Buddh Nagar. She becomes the first woman to hold this post, marking a milestone in the district’s administrative history. The move reflects a strategic pick for a high-profile role in one of the state’s most dynamic urban hubs.

Return to Familiar Ground

This is not Roopam’s first posting in Noida. She earlier served as Additional CEO of the Greater Noida Authority, working on key projects like the Jewar International Airport and the International Film City.
Her return is viewed as a push to expedite these flagship ventures through her existing familiarity with the projects and their challenges.

From Kasganj to Noida – A Strategic Leap

Roopam replaces Manish Kumar Verma, now posted to Prayagraj. She moves from Kasganj, where she served as DM with distinction.
Her earlier stints include roles in Hapur and as Chief Development Officer in Barabanki. This transfer places her at the center of urban policy, mega infrastructure execution, and sensitive law-and-order management.

A Career Built on Discipline and Leadership

Born in Agra and educated in Kerala, Roopam excelled in competitive shooting during school, winning three gold medals at the Kerala State Shooting Championship in 2008. She later chose the civil services, clearing the IAS exam in 2014.
Public service runs in her family — her father, Gyanesh Kumar Gupta, is India’s Chief Election Commissioner. She is married to IAS officer Manish Bansal, and the couple have two children.

Track Record of Key Postings

Roopam’s career includes assignments such as Assistant Magistrate in Bareilly, Joint Magistrate in Meerut and Unnao, and DM in Hapur. She also served as Special Secretary in the Women Welfare Department and Joint Director in UPAAM.
As Additional CEO in Greater Noida, she handled land allocation and logistics for Jewar Airport and Film City. Her work in Kasganj was noted for administrative reform and grievance redressal.

High Expectations in a High-Stakes District

Noida’s unique challenges include law-and-order demands, real estate growth, global investments, and high public scrutiny. Roopam’s past experience in the region and her disciplined leadership style are expected to aid faster coordination and project execution.
Observers believe she brings the right mix of local insight, administrative skill, and public engagement to the role. Her tenure begins amid growing investor interest and tightening deadlines for key infrastructure projects.

All eyes are now on Noida and its first woman DM as she takes charge of one of India’s most-watched urban administrations.
