CM Dhami orders Kumbh projects done before October 2026

The preparations for the Haridwar Kumbh Mela 2027 are in full swing, with the state government pushing for timely completion of all major projects to ensure a smooth and grand event. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed that all permanent infrastructure and development works linked to the mega religious gathering must be completed by October 2026 so that the city is well-equipped to handle millions of devotees expected from across the world.

Government Push for Early Completion of Projects

Chairing a high-level review meeting in Dehradun, the Chief Minister emphasized that the Haridwar Kumbh Mela 2027 is among the government’s top priorities. He instructed departments to categorize projects on priority and complete them within set deadlines. According to media reports, Dhami specifically asked for strict coordination between departments so that no aspect of planning lags behind.

Focus on Master Plan and Land Use

Officials were directed to implement the approved master plan, which clearly marks zones for ghats, campsites, parking, and approach roads. Land acquisition and temporary space allocation will be carried out accordingly. The CM also called for new ghats to be constructed and existing ones such as Kangra Ghat to be improved for better crowd management.

Roads, Corridors, and Transport Upgrades

Infrastructure expansion is at the heart of preparations. The under-construction Bahadrabad–Shyampur bypass is expected to be completed ahead of the event to ease traffic flow. Expansion of Haridwar’s Ganga Corridor, handled by the Uttarakhand Infrastructure and Industrial Development Board (UDIIB), will be accelerated with Kumbh needs in mind. Plans are also in place for special tent zones at Shyampur, Gendi Khata, and Chandighat. A traffic diversion plan, shuttle services from distant parking lots, and repaired internal roads will ensure smoother mobility for pilgrims and locals.

Waste Management and Cleanliness

Officials were instructed to adopt a “zero waste” approach within the mela zone. Permanent and mobile waste systems, dustbins, recycling facilities, and mobile toilets will be installed. For women pilgrims, pink toilets and changing rooms will be set up. A 24/7 cleaning mechanism around ghats, particularly at Har Ki Pauri, will ensure uninterrupted hygiene standards.

Safety and Security Measures

Pilgrim safety is being prioritized with provisions of lifeguards, motorboats, and safety ropes at every ghat. According to several media sources, the police have been directed to ensure crowd control, parking regulation, and anti-encroachment drives well before the mela begins. Officials have also been tasked with ensuring sensitive handling of devotees so that the experience remains positive and well-managed.

Health, Technology, and Digital Services

The mela zone will house temporary hospitals, ambulances, and mobile medical teams. IT-based monitoring systems will be used for event management. A dedicated mobile app, round-the-clock helpline numbers, and multiple information centers will deliver updates to visitors in real-time.

The Chief Minister underlined that the first impression of visiting devotees must remain memorable, instructing officials to train frontline personnel in crowd engagement, public communication, and service standards.

Authorities will now review progress every 15 days to ensure deadlines are met, with district magistrates and police chiefs directly involved in coordination.

The Haridwar Kumbh Mela 2027 is projected to draw millions of pilgrims and tourists, putting Uttarakhand’s administrative, cultural, and infrastructural capabilities under the spotlight.

As India prepares for the sacred gathering, citizens and devotees alike are likely to expect not just spiritual fulfillment but also cleaner, safer, and more digitally-enabled pilgrimage experiences that could set new benchmarks for future events.
