New Madrasa education law to start from July 2026

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami today honoured meritorious students and principals in a state-level ceremony while highlighting major education reforms. Speaking at the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Shikshaik Utkrishtta Award function held at SCERT Auditorium in Nanurkheda, he stressed that education must go beyond textbooks and include values like patriotism, ethics, and social harmony.

Students and Schools Felicitated

The Chief Minister awarded 75 toppers from high school and intermediate board exams, comprising the top 10 rank-holders. Along with them, three principals from high-performing schools and heads of the top 50 institutions were also recognised. According to media reports, the aim of such recognition is to boost excellence across the education sector in the state.

Focus on Modern and Value-Based Education

Dhami underlined that the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, introduced nationwide under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, is a transformative step towards making education more practical, modern, and quality-driven. He said the Uttarakhand government is aligning its policies with this vision while also integrating Indian values.

The Chief Minister noted that smart classrooms, digital libraries, and online platforms are already being developed in state institutes. Students from grades 6 to 8 are also being introduced to India’s cultural heritage and traditions through the “Hamari Virasat” textbook.

Expanding Digital Learning Infrastructure

Highlighting further digital progress, Dhami said that:

  • 226 schools across the state are being developed as PM Shri Schools.
  • 1,300 schools have been equipped with virtual classrooms.
  • Five PM e-Vidya channels are being run to provide access to online learning in remote areas.

This, he said, ensures children in rural and far-flung regions remain connected with technology-enabled quality education.

Support for Competitive Exams and Jobs

The state government has introduced financial aid of ₹50,000 for candidates who clear the written round of UPSC, NDA, CDS and other competitive exams to help them prepare for the interview stage. Officials said that in the past four years, over 25,000 youths have been selected for government jobs, with many candidates from modest backgrounds clearing multiple recruitment exams.

New Regulation for Madrasa Education

Dhami also announced an important policy shift, stating that from July 1, 2026, only those madrasas in the state that adopt the curriculum prescribed by the government education board would be allowed to function. Teachers without formal academic qualifications will also no longer be permitted, ensuring quality standards. As per several media sources, this step aims to align religious education with mainstream academic learning and check irregularities in minority education institutions.

Dignitaries Present

The event was attended by Education Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat, Education Secretary Ravinath Raman, and Director General of Education Deepti Singh, along with other senior officials.

The Chief Minister concluded by reiterating the state’s commitment towards innovative, inclusive, and modern education rooted in Indian values.

The initiative highlights a broader push towards digital learning, value-based education, and fair reforms, reflecting growing expectations around transparency and inclusivity in the education system.
