Festive season gets special traffic safety measures

Uttarakhand is set to implement a robust traffic management plan ahead of the upcoming festive season, aiming to ensure smooth mobility and public safety in Dehradun and other crowded areas. At a high-level meeting chaired by Home Secretary Shailesh Bagoli, senior police officers and Traffic Directorate officials outlined comprehensive measures for crowd and vehicle flow control.

Special Festive Traffic Arrangements

The Home Secretary directed that targeted arrangements be made near markets, religious sites, and congested zones to prevent traffic snarls. According to media reports, officers will personally monitor the situation on the ground to maintain order and minimize inconvenience to the public.

To bolster manpower, one company from the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) or Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) will be deployed in Dehradun. Home Guard and PRD personnel will also assist, with additional traffic staff assigned to busy intersections and key points identified in advance.

Technology-Driven Monitoring

Bagoli emphasized bringing all traffic signals and CCTV cameras under the police department’s direct control for real-time monitoring and swift intervention. The Traffic Directorate has been tasked with engaging experts to design an efficient festive-season traffic plan, while maintaining close coordination with agencies like the Municipal Corporation, PWD, Smart City, and the Transport Department.

Infrastructure and Resource Strengthening

The meeting also focused on enhancing the directorate’s human resources, technical tools, and infrastructure to support not only the immediate festive plan but also long-term traffic management strategies. As per several media sources, inter-agency communication will be key to executing and sustaining the plan.

Emergency Readiness

Special instructions were issued to ensure that access routes for ambulances, fire tenders, and essential services remain clear at all times during the celebrations. This will help emergency teams respond without delay in case of any unforeseen incidents.

With a mix of manpower, technology, and careful planning, the state aims to prevent congestion and maintain public convenience and safety through the festive rush.

The upcoming operational plan could set a model for event-time traffic management, combining on-ground supervision and technology integration to reduce urban mobility bottlenecks.
