Free canal irrigation and polyhouse boost in state

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated the 118th All India Farmers Fair and Agro-Industry Exhibition at Pantnagar University, unveiling newly developed pulse varieties and releasing a book titled “Pantnagar Pravah.” The mega event, featuring over 400 stalls including 200 from across India, showcased cutting-edge farming technology, innovative seeds, and modern equipment.

Modern Technology and Farmer Empowerment

Addressing the silver jubilee session marking Uttarakhand’s statehood, Dhami highlighted how agricultural fairs help farmers access the latest methods, share experiences, and learn from experts. He expressed confidence that modern innovations displayed will help growers merge traditional practices with scientific techniques for higher productivity and sustainability.

National Schemes Boosting Agriculture

According to media reports, Dhami praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiatives, citing the ₹24,000 crore “PM Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana” and the ₹11,500 crore “Pulse Productivity Mission” to strengthen food security and pulse cultivation. He emphasized that Uttarakhand’s government is committed to farmer welfare through free canal irrigation and a ₹200 crore polyhouse program, which has already funded 350 units worth ₹115 crore.

Quality and Market Value Enhancement

As per several media sources, Dhami announced subsidies for grading and sorting units to help farmers improve crop quality and market value. He also reaffirmed that such projects will support sustained income growth for cultivators.

Wider Dialogue on Governance

The event also hosted discussions on Uttarakhand’s newly implemented Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and anti-cheating laws. Students Pooja Joshi, Niti Sharma, and Nidh Avasti shared insights on these topics, while farmer Seema Rani spoke about her successful farming journey. The CM clarified that the UCC aims to eliminate social inequalities, ensuring equal rights without targeting any religion.

Dignitaries in Attendance

The program was attended by MLAs Shiv Arora, Trilok Singh Cheema, and Suresh Garia, former MLA Rajesh Shukla, District Magistrate Nitin Singh Bhadoria, Senior Superintendent of Police Manikant Mishra, and other senior officials.

Farmers in Uttarakhand can expect greater access to modern resources, improved crop quality, and better market opportunities as the state pushes forward with technology-driven agriculture reforms.

With ongoing policy measures and community-driven exhibitions like this, future fairs are likely to see stronger participation from across India and further integration of innovation into rural farming.
