- Uttarakhand PM SHRI school upgrades
- Modern smart class amenities
- Lakhpati Didi scheme review
- SHG capacity and product markets
Uttarakhand is stepping up its efforts to modernize education and empower rural communities through two transformative schemes reviewed at the secretariat today. Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan led a comprehensive assessment of the implementation of PM SHRI and the Lakhpati Didi schemes, stressing upgrades for schools and advancements for self-help groups.
Push for Modern School Facilities
At the meeting, Bardhan called for an Uttarakhand-specific initiative modeled on the PM SHRI scheme, which provides ₹40 lakh annually over five years (total ₹2 crore) to select schools for smart classes, science labs, libraries, and sports amenities. He urged that the state plan should bring modern infrastructure to government schools and start with cluster schools for faster, scalable results.
Focus on Quality and Capacity Building
The Chief Secretary detailed the need for smart classroom setups, enriched libraries, and science labs for every state-run school. According to media reports, officials were instructed to expand these smart solutions efficiently. Bardhan emphasized that all proposed modernization would enhance learning environments and support student development.
Lakhpati Didi Scheme Under Review
Alongside education, the review examined the progress of the Lakhpati Didi scheme, which focuses on uplifting self-help group members by promoting technology-driven product improvements. Bardhan directed officials to run regular capacity-building programs and monitor the scheme robustly. The goal is to make the state’s SHG products highly competitive, with increased market exposure through e-commerce, retail chains, and “House of Himalayas” branding.
Administrative Roadmap Outlined
The Chief Secretary stressed immediate formation of steering and monitoring committees for Lakhpati Didi, mandating continuous meetings to drive progress. He guided departments to prioritize product placement on key digital and retail platforms. Senior officials, including Principal Secretary R. Meenakshi Sundaram and Joint Secretary Vijay Kumar Jogdande, attended the review, providing updates on current outcomes and next steps.
Uttarakhand aims to fast-track school modernization and enhance rural self-reliance through sustained leadership and coordinated actions. These dual investments are set to upgrade learning spaces and boost SHG productivity, fostering inclusive development across the state.
If implementation continues at this pace, communities and students could see noticeable improvements in access to quality education and expanded economic opportunities in coming years.
