Dehradun markets glow with Swadeshi spirit

As festive lights brighten Dehradun’s bustling markets, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami took a meaningful step toward promoting indigenous craftsmanship this Diwali. His visit to local shops on Chakrata Road not only added festive spirit but also underscored the growing “Vocal for Local” sentiment across Uttarakhand.

Supporting Artisans and Local Vendors

The Chief Minister was seen purchasing earthen lamps, traditional utensils, and other handmade items from local vendors. According to media reports, CM Dhami interacted warmly with potters, artisans, and shopkeepers, encouraging them to continue preserving traditional art forms that reflect the cultural essence of India.

He highlighted that buying indigenous products sustains local livelihoods and helps strengthen the vision of a self-reliant India. Several media sources noted that he also used UPI for his purchases, urging citizens to adopt digital payments and support local entrepreneurs during festivals.

Boost in Sales and Festive Spirit

During his visit, local shopkeepers told the Chief Minister that this year’s sales have surpassed previous years, partly due to reduced GST rates on several items. They expressed joy as more customers preferred buying eco-friendly, handmade products. CM Dhami expressed satisfaction over the positive shift in consumer habits, adding that this festive surge reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for “Swadeshi Apnao” and “Vocal for Local.”

He also encouraged residents to light their homes with traditional earthen lamps this Diwali, blending Indian heritage with environmental consciousness.

Strengthening the Swadeshi Commitment

Dhami’s emphasis on local craftsmanship aligns with the state’s effort to empower small traders, household manufacturers, and artisans. His visit created an atmosphere of optimism among business owners, energizing festive markets just days before Diwali.

The Chief Minister’s gesture signals the government’s intent to drive economic revival from the grassroots level, ensuring that the festive prosperity reaches every small business in the state.

As Uttarakhand gears up for the festival of lights, CM Dhami’s message of “Buy Local, Support Local” adds meaning to the celebration—turning tradition into a path toward economic resilience.

The initiative has sparked enthusiasm among local artisans and sellers who now expect stronger community participation and growing recognition for indigenous products.
